Cousins Have a Party

Little Bird and her cousin Addi both have March birthdays. Addi's is on St. Patrick's day and Little Bird's is a few days later. My parents were in town during spring break so we had a family party for the two girls. Both girls did a good job sharing the spotlight.

Addi picked the cake flavor - Reese's Pieces cake. Three layers cut in half so that there was filling in every bite. The frosting was a marshmallow buttercream, and the cake was filled with alternating layers of the buttercream and a peanut butter filling with more Reese's pieces. I promised Addi an EPIC cake. It was the tallest cake I ever made.

Her cousin Clara thought she got some really good stuff.

Little Bird Turns 4

Little Bird had been going back and forth between having a Sofia the First party or a Doc McStuffins party. In the end she went with Sofia. I started planning this a couple of months ago and would get stuff when I saw it. How many times do you see something when you don't need it and when you go back to get it it's gone? I didn't want that to happen so I had it on the brain whenever I went shopping.
She invited five friends and it was a fun little group. I decided to have it at the park and the weather was perfect!

Party Favor
(gotta love Walmart, the Dollar Store and the internet)

To start the party the girls decorated bags with their names on them. They had stickers, crayons and sparkling jewels. If they arrived sooner and had time there were coloring pages they could work on.

Cake and snack table. They ate snack during story time.
I had two Sofia books that I read while they ate snacks.

I was all prepared to make a Sofia dress out of cupcakes but decided to make a cake instead. I used cream cheese frosting and it got too warm and started drooping. I had some serious issues that made me question more than once what I was thinking making this cake. I fixed the problem by the top ruffles and now know better for next time. :) I made the number 4 out of wire and beads.

After decorating their bags, making a flower out of their hand print, and eating snacks while listening to a story we had some movement activities. The first one was hopping like Clover (Sofia's pet rabbit) to pick the carrot. There was some really good hopping going on.

After the hop there was a bean bag toss but I didn't get any pictures of them in action.

Instead of a pinata I made a punch game. That was an idea floating around Pinterest.

Opening presents...with a little help sometimes.

At home enjoying all her new things.

The biggest present she got from us was her Sofia dress. I made it and it was a lot of "firsts" for me. It was my first time sewing a lined bodice with a zipper and my first time applying applique...48 pieces altogether. I found a tutorial online for how to make the bodice and the rest I made up. There were lots of ideas on Pinterest that helped me decide how to translate the cartoon dress into real life. When it was done I got a little weepy. I was so excited it turned out okay!
